Kalkan's nearest airport is DALAMAN (airport code DLM). During the season daily flights from many regional airports are available: the journey time to Turkey is a comfortable four hours. Easy Jet, Jet2 and Thomas Cook are budget airlines who travel there. Travel search engines such as KAYAK or Cheap Flights can also help you find a low cost flight. ANTALYA is the next closest airport for Kalkan with a transfer time to Kalkan of 3 hours.

Please read the advice to independent travellers from Consumers Direct and on your rights if an airline goes bust (Independent Travel) from DirectGov.

Visas
Please note that on arrival at the airport in Turkey you will need to pay an entry visa of £10 per person before passing through passport control.

The distance between Dalaman and Kalkan is 117 km. You can have an enjoyable holiday in Kalkan without the need for a car. Driving is on the right. UK licences are valid for visits of up to three months. To rent a car drivers must be aged 21 or over.
Time Difference
Turkey is two hours ahead of GMT (three hours from the last Sunday in March to the last Sunday in October).

Phoning Home
This is easily done by using the phones at the counter in the Kalkan post office. To make an overseas call, dial 00 followed by the international code (UK 44) followed by the local code (omitting the initial zero from the code number) and then the number.

Health
Medical provision in Turkey is no worse than in many other European countries, but doctors practice mainly in the bigger towns. Pharmacies (ecsane, 8.30am - 7pm) have many medications available without prescription. Given the intensity of the Mediterranean sun in summer, take good supplies of a high-factor sun cream. While you don't need to have any particular vaccinations before you enter Turkey, it is essential that you have private health insurance as there is currently no reciprocal agreement with the UK.

Travel Documents
UK Nationals require a visa to enter Turkey for a period of up to three months. Visas (costing £10 per person) are issued upon entering the country, so there is no need to apply for one in advance.

Customs Regulations
Carpets may be exported only if a receipt giving the age of the carpet can be produced. The export of antiques (pre-1945) is forbidden. Under Turkish regulations, only 200 cigarettes and 1 litre of spirits may be imported.

Money
The currency is the Turkish lira. There is no limit to the amount of foreign currency which may be imported, however it is advisable to change only small amounts of Turkish lira at home, as the exchange rates there are likely to be unfavourable compared to changing money in Turkey.
